Kentucky Announces Jamal Crawford as New Assistant Coach in Major Move for Mark Pope’s Staff

The Kentucky Wildcats have made a headline-grabbing addition to their coaching staff, officially announcing NBA legend Jamal Crawford as the program’s new assistant coach.

The move sees one of basketball’s most respected scorers and mentors join head coach Mark Pope as Kentucky continues to build a staff capable of competing for national championships and attracting the nation’s best recruits.

Crawford, a three-time NBA Sixth Man of the Year and one of the league’s most gifted offensive players, brings more than two decades of professional basketball experience. Renowned for his elite ball-handling, leadership, and ability to mentor young players, he is expected to play a key role in the development of Kentucky’s guards and wings.

Speaking after the announcement, Mark Pope welcomed Crawford to Lexington and praised the impact he believes the former NBA star will have on the program.

“Jamal understands the game at the highest level. He’s a phenomenal teacher, an incredible competitor, and someone our players can learn from every single day. We’re thrilled to have him join our staff.”

Crawford also shared his excitement about beginning the next chapter of his basketball journey.

“Kentucky is one of the greatest brands in college basketball. The opportunity to help develop young men on and off the court while working alongside Coach Pope was something I couldn’t pass up. I’m excited to get to work.”

The appointment has generated significant excitement among the Big Blue Nation. Fans believe Crawford’s reputation throughout the basketball world will strengthen Kentucky’s recruiting efforts while giving current players the opportunity to learn from one of the NBA’s most creative scorers.

Behind the scenes, Kentucky’s basketball operations team, led by Nick Robinson, is expected to work closely with Crawford as preparations begin for the upcoming season.

With Crawford now on the sidelines, expectations around the Wildcats continue to rise as the program looks to return to the top of college basketball under Mark Pope.
