Daniel Iversen admits he has ‘just trained’ for too many years as he signs for Preston North End as a free agent, 12 months since he played his last competitive game.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper hasn’t played a minute of a senior match since his last game on loan at Stoke City in 2023/24, having spent half-a-season on loan from Leicester City. He spent 2024/25 back on the sidelines at Leicester, who had always demanded a sky high price from any Championship suitors.
He had spent the first half of 2023/24 in the stands too as well as much of 2022/23, having been on loan at Preston for 18 months from early 2021 until the summer of 2022
The former Denmark youth international now becomes Preston’s second signing of the summer, following in the footsteps of his old Stoke teammate Jordan Thompson, who has also joined as a free agent. He replaces Freddie Woodman, who is being released at Deepdale.
“It feels great. It’s something I’ve been looking forward to really for a couple of months now. I’ve always seen myself coming back to Preston again so I’m really happy to be back,” said Iversen, who only made 12 league appearances for Leicester since joining in 2016. “I love it here. It’s the most I’ve been happy. Preston is where I’ve played my best football. Preston feels like home for me. Everyone around the club are good people and the fans too. I just love it here so it’s a no brainer for me to come back.
“I cannot wait to play again. I’ve trained for too many years now, just trained. You get to a point where it’s not fun anymore to just go out and train. You want to play and you want to be part of a team again.
