Green Bay, WI — May 7, 2025

In a move no one saw coming, the Green Bay Packers have traded quarterback Jordan Love to the Chicago Bears, citing internal locker room tensions and an unresolved contract extension battle.

Love, who led the Packers to a playoff appearance last season, had reportedly grown frustrated with the front office over a stalled long-term deal. Sources say a heated exchange between Love and head coach Matt LaFleur during voluntary minicamp last week was the final straw.

The Bears sent Justin Fields, a 2026 first-round pick, and defensive lineman Dominique Robinson in exchange for the 26-year-old quarterback—marking the most shocking trade in the storied Packers-Bears rivalry history.

“We did not take this lightly,” said Packers GM Brian Gutekunst. “But we had to make a decision for the locker room and the long-term future of the franchise.”

Chicago fans erupted in celebration, while Packers supporters expressed disbelief and outrage. Former Packer legends, including Brett Favre, have already weighed in.

“This one hurts,” Favre said on social media. “You just don’t send your QB1 to the Bears.”

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the deal was finalized in secret, with league officials sworn to confidentiality due to the “explosive nature of the rivalry implications.”
