Briski Shines as Alabama Softball Completes Sweep of Missouri with Senior Day Shutout
TUSCALOOSA, Ala — Alabama softball celebrated its seniors in dominant fashion Sunday afternoon as sophomore pitcher Jocelyn Briski delivered a masterful performance in the circle, leading the Crimson Tide to a 2-0 shutout win over Missouri and securing the team’s first Southeastern Conference (SEC) sweep of the 2025 season.
The victory not only capped off a successful weekend at Rhoads Stadium but also elevated Alabama back above .500 in conference play, signaling renewed momentum as the postseason looms. Following a motivating pre-series message from head coach Patrick Murphy, the Crimson Tide responded with three strong games — none more impressive than Sunday’s finale.
Briski, who has emerged as Alabama’s ace this season, was untouchable. She tossed a complete-game shutout, her second of the season, scattering five hits across seven innings with no walks and only 80 pitches. Her control and efficiency marked a sharp contrast from her outing on Friday, where she allowed five walks.
“You go from having five walks on Friday to having none today,” Briski said postgame. “Just trying to get ahead of batters, stay efficient, keep my ball in the zone, and really just trusting the defense. Ending the game on a double play like that was huge.”
That game-ending double play was Alabama’s 29th of the season and a fitting exclamation point on a weekend defined by timely pitching and airtight defense. In a tense matchup that remained scoreless through 4.5 innings, Alabama finally broke through with a pair of runs that proved to be the difference. While offensive production was limited, it was enough for Briski, who continued to stifle Missouri’s hitters inning after inning.
Missouri had a chance to rally in the final frame, bringing the tying run to the plate after a one-out single. But Briski kept her composure, inducing a ground ball that was turned into a game-ending double play — a moment that encapsulated both her trust in the defense and the team’s ability to close under pressure.
“Jocelyn was just tremendous today,” Coach Murphy said. “She worked ahead, mixed her pitches well, and gave us a chance to win every inning. That’s what you want from your leader in the circle.”
Sunday’s win was particularly sweet as it came on Senior Day, giving Alabama’s graduating players a memorable send-off in front of a supportive home crowd. The sweep over Missouri also improves the Tide’s standing in the SEC and boosts its postseason seeding hopes.
With the regular season nearing its close, Alabama appears to be peaking at the right time. Behind the steady arm of Briski and a defense that consistently delivers in key moments, the Crimson Tide now looks to carry this momentum into its final games and the SEC Tournament.
“We just wanted to go out and play for each other,” Briski said. “This was a big weekend, and I’m proud of how we responded.”
Up next, Alabama faces a crucial road series as it continues to climb the SEC ladder and build its postseason resume.
