Like a debut’ – Blackburn Rovers man reacts to rare appearance against Luton Town

Amario Cozier-Duberry’s full debut for Blackburn Rovers against Luton Town was a memorable occasion, as the 19-year-old winger marked his first start with a goal and an all-around impressive performance. The match, held on December 14, 2024, at Ewood Park, saw Rovers secure a 2-0 victory, extending their winning streak to six matches.

Cozier-Duberry, on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion, had been limited to seven substitute appearances due to an ankle injury sustained in October. His return to the starting lineup was eagerly anticipated, and he did not disappoint. In the 32nd minute, he opened the scoring with a well-executed right-footed shot, following a precise assist from Makhtar Gueye. Just eight minutes later, fellow loanee Owen Beck doubled the lead with a composed left-footed strike, also set up by Gueye. The first-half goals proved decisive, as Rovers maintained their advantage throughout the second half.

Blackburn’s head coach, John Eustace, praised Cozier-Duberry’s performance, highlighting his work ethic both with and without the ball. Eustace noted that the young winger had been close to starting several weeks prior but was sidelined due to injury. He expressed satisfaction with Cozier-Duberry’s contribution, emphasizing the importance of flair players who are also willing to put in the defensive effort.

The victory propelled Blackburn to fifth place in the Championship table, five points behind second-placed Leeds United with a game in hand. The team’s strong form, bolstered by contributions from new signings like Cozier-Duberry, has kept their promotion aspirations alive as they continue to challenge for a top-two finish.

Cozier-Duberry’s debut not only showcased his individual talent but also underscored the depth and quality of Blackburn’s squad. With the team in excellent form and key players returning from injury, Rovers will be looking to build on this momentum in their upcoming fixtures.
