DONE DEAL: Oklahoma lands in top-eight for top-150 defensive lineman

The month of January sees recruiting action really pick back up. Visit weekends, coaches on the trail and prospects putting more emphasis on their process.

You can argue the third part of that equation applies to Trent Wilson. The 2025 defensive lineman announced via social media a list of his top-eight schools at this point in his recruitment.

This narrows things down from an offer sheet featuring nearly 30 schools all the way down to Oklahoma, Penn State, Ohio State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Florida, Maryland and Florida State.

This is certainly good news for the Crimson and Cream, especially given recent efforts from the program to recruit Wilson. The Sooners have really started to pick things up in pursuit of the standout defensive front liner.

Oklahoma and Wilson scheduled a spring visit, slating him to be on campus in early March. Wilson also saw OU defensive line coach Todd Bates take the trip out to Upper Marlboro, Maryland in order to check-in in-person on site at Dr. Henry Wise High School.

The Sooners are making their presence known and showcasing their interest in Wilson for good reason, as are the other seven schools to make the cut. He’s already considered one of the top talents in the junior class.

According to the 247Sports Network’s specific rankings, Wilson is seen as a top-150 overall recruit in the 2025 cycle. The four-star also seen as a top-15 defensive lineman nationally and a top-five player in the state of Maryland. The industry-generated Composite Player Rankings give Wilson a boost, there he checks in as the No. 110 prospect in ’25, a top-10 defensive front liner and a top-three player in Maryland.

Wilson just visited Penn State and early indications are that the Nittany Lions are in prime position within his recruitment. But a busy stretch lies ahead with a trip to Florida State coming up this weekend, a visit at Maryland slated for early February then that previously mentioned trip to Oklahoma out there in early March. It’s also expected he takes trips to other programs that made his top-eight in the near future.

Wilson does not have a decision date set or a timeline in-mind. Currently there are no 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions in regarding Wilson’s recruitment, a process that appears to still be wide open.

Even with Penn State’s surge, the other programs in contention will continue to approach this with as much effort as possible. The 6-foot-3 and 270-pounder is the type of defensive lineman programs want leading their program at the point of attack.

So, Wilson turns his attention to the eight schools mentioned. It’s up to these programs to capitalize as his focus narrows to what they each bring to the table. Oklahoma will look to do exactly that as the Sooners sort through this notable recruitment.
