Dennis-Allen-drops-revelation-on-Justin-Simmons-visit

New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen recently discussed the team’s interest in former Denver Broncos defensive back Justin Simmons. Allen provided insights into what Simmons could bring to the Saints and the potential reasons behind his availability after a successful career with Denver.

With the start of the season approaching, Simmons stands out as one of the top free agents available, having been released by the Broncos in March after an eight-year tenure. Allen expressed his admiration for Simmons, noting his long-standing success in the league. “He’s been a good player in our league for a long time,” Allen said, according to Luke Johnson of NOLA.com.

Allen elaborated on the situation, stating, “He’s a player that has shown an interest in us. We have some connections with him through our staff and former teammates. We’ll discuss our vision for him, and if what we’re looking for aligns with what he wants, we’ll explore the possibility further.”

Despite being cut by the Broncos to manage salary cap issues, Simmons had a noteworthy career with Denver, amassing 30 interceptions, two Pro Bowl selections, and multiple All-Pro honors. In the 2023 season, he recorded three interceptions, two forced fumbles, 53 solo tackles, and eight pass deflections.

If Simmons were to join the Saints, he would be reunited with Will Harris, a former Denver teammate, which Harris believes could ease Simmons’ transition to New Orleans. Harris noted, “Having someone familiar with the player and the system can make the transition smoother, as they understand how he responds in various situations and how he fits into the team culture.”

Allen is intrigued by Simmons’ availability, acknowledging his impressive track record but expressing uncertainty about why he remains on the market. “I think he’s been a good player in our league. I can’t speak to why he’s still available, but we believe he’s a good player and are interested in bringing him in for a visit,” Allen said.

As the Saints prepare for the season opener against the Carolina Panthers on September 8, they aim to strengthen their roster following a 9-8 finish last season.
