After three transfer windows of relative calm, Newcastle United are ready to plunge back into the market this summer, and spend big on the first-team squad. The priorities don’t seem to have changed much in the past 12 months, but the feeling is that the Magpies are now likely to secure the deals which have alluded them to date.

The squad needs more reinforcements throughout, but a goalkeeper, central defender and right-sided forward have been identified as three key areas of improvement for the first-team. Eddie Howe knows his squad will have to be strong enough to deal with the extra eight Champions League games which are scheduled for next term, while United must be able to maintain a challenge at the top end of the Premier League.

Money is available. How much remains to be seen, and United will understandably keep their cards close to their chest when it comes to budgets. Any income from player exits would, of course, increase their spending potential, but departures would likely need replacing.

Newcastle are confident of being able to land their top targets, although there remains competition, as always, for the big-name players they have been linked with. But how could United line up after a ‘dream’ summer transfer scenario? Here’s a look at the potential strongest starting XI come the start of the 2025-26 campaign.
