Manchester United are now reportedly clear favourites to win a transfer race for Liam Delap.
The 22-year-old striker, who is believed to have a £30m relegation release clause in his contract, is in demand after scoring 12 times in his debut Premier League campaign despite the struggles of Ipswich Town.
Man United hope to seal the deal by offering the former Stoke City loanee the prospect of playing in the Champions League, although Newcastle United and Chelsea have not given up on that score either.
Sky report: “Sky Sports News understands the player would be happy to move to Old Trafford this summer. However, his final decision could be swayed by whether or not they win the Europa League final and qualify for next season’s Champions League.
“Newcastle and Chelsea also want to sign Delap and are battling to finish in the Champions League places themselves via the Premier League.”
Either way, Ipswich are braced to lose Delap, who they signed from Manchester City for £20m last summer on the back of an eye-catching loan spell at Hull City. Delap has progressed quickly from his time at Stoke and Preston North End.
