Prince Harry has resigned from the Sentebale – the children’s charity he founded nearly 20 years ago in Lesotho, Africa, to carry on Princess Diana’s legacy – it was revealed on Tuesday
Prince Harry spoke out passionately about the future of Sentebale in an unearthed clip published before he left the charity.
The Duke of Sussex, 40, co-founded the children’s charity in 2006 alongside Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, having both been inspired by the work of their late mothers. Sentebale was launched to help vulnerable children in Lesotho and Botswana who have been impacted by poverty and HIV/AIDS.
On Tuesday (March 25) it was revealed the princehad resigned in solidarity with his co-founder and the whole board of trustees after an alleged internal crisis unfolded, branded “unthinkable.” Several trustees have left the organisation following a dispute with the board’s chairwoman, Dr Sophie Chandauka, who rejected requests for her to resign.
In a joint statement, the princes said: “Nearly 20 years ago, we founded Sentebale in honour of our mothers. Sentebale means ‘forget-me-not’ in Sesotho, the local language of Lesotho, and it’s what we’ve always promised for the young people we’ve served through this charity.
“Today is no different. With heavy hearts, we have resigned from our roles as patrons of the organisation until further notice, in support of and solidarity with the board of trustees who have had to do the same. It is devastating that the relationship between the charity’s trustees and the chair of the board broke down beyond repair, creating an untenable situation.”
