Former Georgia Bulldog Eric Stokes was honored by his high school, Eastside High School. Eastside decided to retire his jersey, No. 5, in his honor. He posted about it on Instagram too.
Stokes hailed from Eastside High School out of Covington, Georgia. He was a three-star recruit when he signed with Georgia in 2017.
With the Bulldogs, Stokes became an integral part of the hard-nosed Kirby Smart defenses. In 2020, he had four pass breakups and four interceptions, two returned for a touchdowns. His excellent 2020 season earned him a first round selection by the Green Bay Packers, who took him 29th overall in the 2021 NFL draft.
Georgia is looking for another cornerback like Eric Stokes to emerge from the secondary. Cornerback Daylen Everette announced his return to Georgia this offseason, but Georgia has looked to the transfer portal for secondary help. Safeties Zion Branch from USC, Jaden Harris from Miami, and Adrian Maddox from UAB have all signed with the Bulldogs out of the portal. Players like Malaki Starks are entering the NFL draft, so there are plenty of spots for Georgia to replace in the secondary.
