The long arm of the National Hockey League law came down on Conor Timmins on Monday.

Not heavily, mind you.

The Maple Leafs defenceman was fined for cross-checking forward Brandon Tanev of the Seattle Kraken during the first period of the game between the clubs on Sunday night in Seattle.

Timmins was fined $2,864.58, the maximum allowable under the CBA, by the NHL’s department of player safety. The money goes to the players’ emergency assistance fund.

Timmins was assessed a minor penalty on the play, which resulted in Tanev falling into the end boards behind the Leafs net. Tanev was not happy about it, and wound up with a roughing minor when he tried to get at Timmins in the scrum that followed.

The Leafs won 3-1, ending a four-game trip with two wins and two losses.
