Danny Rohl shares “troubling” injury update on 28 year old star

Danny Rohl has provided an injury update on Sheffield Wednesday star Dominic Iorfa.

Dominic Iorfa had played the full 90 minutes in seven of Danny Rohl‘s eight games in charge prior to his injury, with the German coach hailing him as ‘fantastic’ during the start of his stint on Hillsborough.

The defender has now been sidelined for over a month though, having been forced off after only four minutes in December’s 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers.

Rohl previously admitted he feared for Iorfa after he went down against Rovers, saying: “I had immediately in my mind after such a sprint after 10 seconds, in this temperature and an ‘English week’, that it could be tough.

“When he went down I was really scared about the situation, but it was also a mental thing after – it’s not easy for a team after an injury in one minute be strong in the game.”

Iorfa has now missed Sheffield Wednesday’s last nine games in the Championship, as well as their 4-0 hammering of Cardiff City in the FA Cup earlier this month.

The Owls boss has now explained that the 28-year-old is close to a return and could be back in action in February.

Speaking to The Star, Rohl said: “Hopefully in three or four weeks.

“But with this injury it’s always about looking from week to week. We’ll try… Next week we have the cup game, then another game on Tuesday. Hopefully in February he can come back out on the pitch and train with the team.

“But you know with injuries you need a little bit of time to adapt again – so we’ll try. He’s a good player for us and did well until the injury, but this is the situation.”

How are Sheffield Wednesday faring with their injury problems?

Dominic Iorfa is joined by Will Vaulks, Momo Diaby, Michael Smith, Mallik Willks and Juan Delgado still on the treatment table, but is undoubtedly one of their biggest absences.

Sheffield Wednesday have powered through a busy festive period with an extensive injury list though and have mostly gone undisturbed, despite some of their big names sitting on the sidelines.

The Owls have seen the likes of Liam Palmer and Michael Ihiekwe relish the opportunity back in the first team and it really gives Danny Rohl more options to consider when everyone is back fit.
